Laparoscopic surgery is done very easily where the patient is put to sleep using general anesthetic and then a small incision is made in the umbilicus. Followed by this a needle is inserted into the abdominal cavity to insert CO2gas as doing so will create a working space in the abdomen. Then a larger cannula is inserted so the laparoscope and up to 3 other small incisions will be made in order to allow other instruments such as scissors, forceps and diathermies to be used.
